Bourbon in Pizza Sauce?
I feel like the Italians would kill me for this one, but it adds such a sweet and smokey flavor that I just can’t let it go unshared. It’s the perfect blend of flavor and compliments any pizza crust with any topping.
Ingredients:
This one is a very simple recipe, all of which are common household ingredients.
- 6 Roma tomatoes, Quartered
- 2 white onions, Quartered
- 3/4 Cup Bourbon
- 3 Cups Water
- 1/2 Tbsp Pepper
- 2 Tsp Coarse Salt
- 1 Red bell pepper, cut into large chunks
- 1 Tsp Oregano (Dried)
- 6-12 full leaves of Fresh Basil (6 Large or 12 Small)
Pretty basic recipe, right?
How to make Bourbon Pizza Sauce:
Step 1- Add your Bourbon and Water to a medium sauce pan and set to Medium heat. Add your salt and pepper at this point.
Step 2- Add all vegetables (Tomato is included as a vegetable here) Also add your Dried Oregano and Fresh Basil.
Step 3- Let his simmer on Medium for 30 Minutes (Covered), you want all of the flavors to cook and mix throughout the sauce.
Step 4- after 30 minutes, you can Increase the heat to Medium-high (Uncovered), Now you want to let excess water evaporate and allow the liquid to reduce. You want it to simmer down so that the liquid thickens to a consistency of Milk.
Step 5- Once the liquid has simmered down, add all of your ingredients to a blender (Including the liquid). Liquify the mixture so its the consistency of a smoothie. Once your ingredients the consistency of a pizza sauce, you can either empty it into a jar and freeze it for a later date or you can add it back to the sauce pan and use it right away.
I hope you enjoy this delicious recipe!!!
