Beer Instead of Water in Pizza Dough?
I’ve been on a kick recently with making homemade pizza dough. It’s honestly such an exciting thing to do, they taste so much better than frozen pizza and you get to customize them however you like. The beer in this pizza dough definitely gives the crust an amazing flavor of maltiness and a hint of sweetness.
Ingredient List:
- 3 1/2 – 4 Cups of Flour
- 1 packet (7g) – Active Dry Yeast
- 12 oz of room temp Lager
- 2 Tsp Sugar
- 1 Tsp Garlic Powder (Optional)
- 2 Tsp Dried Basil (Optional)
- 1 Tbsp Olive Oil (Optional when Kneading)
How to Make the Dough:
Step 1- Start with 3 1/2 cups of flour (Unbleached preferably) and add it to a large bowl. SIFT YOUR FLOUR, otherwise it will turn your dough into a brick!!
Step 2- Add your other dry ingredients, add Yeast, Sugar, garlic powder and basil. After all dry ingredients are added, Mix the dry ingredients with a fork or wooden spoon so they are evenly mixed together.
Step 3- Add your Lager to the bowl and mix together until its abled to be handled with your hands and kneaded. It shouldn’t be too sticky but not too dry either. If you find it to be too stick you can add a little more flour. Do this until you can form a ball and move it onto flour dusted surface to Knead.
Step 4- Knead your dough for 8-10 minutes. If you want, you can add a Tbsp of Olive Oil while you knead it, this will help with adding flavor and help make the dough easier to form. Once the Dough has been Kneaded for 8-10 minutes, Seperate into 2 different balls and add it to two different bowls, both lined with olive oil.
Step 5- Let the Dough rise in the bowls for about an hour or until they have doubled in size. Once they have doubled in size, take them out and knead them for another 3-5 minutes on a flour dusted surface. Now, make sure they are able to stretch paper thin without breaking.
Step 6- Form them into a pizza and preheat your oven to 425 degrees. I made a Delicious Pizza sauce from bourbon that you MUST try out https://dinner-for-tonight.com/2024/06/20/bourbon-pizza-sauce/.
Bake at 425 for 15-20 minutes. Once the Crust feels hard and is getting golden brown, Try Broiling it on high for 2 Minutes to give the crust a great taste!!!
